Indie Picks and HN Library

Two collections offer different ways in. Indie Picks follows an independent learning handbook; HN Library preserves Hacker News discoveries and discussions. Each has its own topics and counts. A video in both collections has one player and one saved or watched record.

Indie Picks imports are metadata indexed. Selection rationales come from the supplied library, and excerpts come from uploader descriptions where available. This is not a full-video review or editorial approval. Metadata and uploader claims can be incomplete or inaccurate.

Indie Picks · 5,000 videos

Independently collected SaaS and AI product videos, organized by a founder handbook. Topics and relevance are metadata-indexed; full-video editorial review has not been completed. Descriptions are uploader excerpts where available.

Editor selections · 0 videos

Independently selected by the site editor. Editorial categories are separate from upstream labels.

Original labels and editor's categories

Source categories, primary topics and tags are preserved. Editors can add separate categories, a written introduction, the intended audience and concrete actions to try after watching. One video may belong to several topics and sources, so counts can overlap.

HackerTube labels and summaries were generated with AI and may contain mistakes. They are not official YouTube tags or independently verified ground truth.

Recommendations and discussions

4,796 videos have a positive HN recommendation; 1,658 were discussed without one. Both remain in the complete library. The daily mix uses positive recommendations, Indie Picks imports and editor-approved picks, excluding news-only and known unavailable entries.

How selection works

Source collection, candidate filtering and editorial approval are separate steps. A rule can check topics, keywords, channels, views, duration or publication date. A match means the available data meets those criteria; it does not guarantee accuracy, revenue or quality. Missing required metadata is shown separately from matches and exclusions.

0 videos currently have explicit editorial approval. Private drafts and rejected candidates are not published. Editors should examine the actual video and supporting evidence before approving a selection. Revenue claims require evidence; a title or a high view count alone is insufficient.

Daily mix and your history

The mix changes each day in Asia/Shanghai and stays stable for the same date and filters. Watched and Watch later records stay in this browser. Opening or playing a video does not mark it watched; use the explicit button. Clearing browser data removes these records.

Durations, views and publication dates

YouTube fields are supplemented through the YouTube Data API. Unknown values remain pending; unknown durations match only Any length. Dates represent publication, which can differ from upload time. Playback depends on YouTube availability and embedding permissions. Counts, durations and playback status refresh automatically after the daily cache expires when someone visits. If an update fails, existing data remains visible.

Current snapshot: 11,445 durations, 11,439 view counts and 11,446 publication dates.
