I built a real-time AI Character that talks back & takes actions (Video AI Agent Tutorial w/ Runway)

AI agents can answer calls, search databases, send emails and use tools—but most of them are still trapped inside a chat box or voice widget. Runway Characters gives those agents a face, a voice and the ability to hold an interactive video conversation in real time. In this video, I build Northstar: a Next.js dashboard with Nova, a real-time Runway Character that can see a shared screen, explain revenue data, navigate between pages, highlight controls, filter support tickets and securely call backend tools. I also create a custom Character from a single image, connect it to the app and break down the React SDK, embedded widget, client tools, page actions, server tools and RPC setup.
