If interested in this kind of thing, I always recommend Issac Arthur. He describes the Fermi Paradox and related concepts 100x better than anyone else. Some relevant ones: The Fermi Paradox Compendium [VIDEO] Fermi Paradox: The Dyson Dilemma v2.0 [LINK] I believe he would say that there is no really good explanation to why we don't see other intelligent civilizations except that we are effectively the first (at least in our galaxy), and intelligent space-faring life is exceedingly rare. This is a similar conclusion to Robin Hanson here, but I think I think Issac Arthur does a better job of deeply explaining it. I think both would agree though.

I really enjoy Isaac Arthur's videos on the subject (he has a playlist with several hours of content exploring different possible solutions). The rest of his channel is great too; he posts a new 30-60 minute video every Thursday. [VIDEO] Edit: The entire playlist: [LINK]

tl;dr it shouldn't take as long as previously thought to colonize the galaxy based on a simulation. That's largely an irrelevant finding that adds nothing to the Fermi Paradox because the time it would take to colonize the galaxy is so small in cosmological terms that shortening it is irrelevant. What's more the authors decided to modeled the suitability of star systems impeding colonization when this seems like it would be largely irrelevant because starfaring civilizations seem highly unlikely to be planet-bound as this is a pretty inefficient use of mass. The Dyson Sphere (Swarm) seems much more likely at which point the only thing of value is the star. The planets are just piles of raw materials ultimately. Obligatory plug for Isaac Arthur who has a series of videos on the Fermi Paradox. Here's an early one [1]. There are 10-20 others that go into particular aspects. [1] [VIDEO]
